A sales order is an often misunderstood document in the order fulfillment process.


  1. Sales Order is often abbreviated to SO
  2. Sales orders are generated after a purchase order (PO) is placed
  3. The sales order is generated by the selling company
  4. A sales order confirms the receipt and acknowledgment of a purchase order
  5. The sales order lets other people in the organization know that there is an order to fulfill
  6. Several purchase orders can be included on one Sales Order
  7. Sales orders can further be converted into Work Orders to build the products
  8. It is part of the order fulfillment process in most companies
  9. Usually the ERP system will generate a Sales Order when Purchase Orders are entered
  10. Sales Orders can be timed for a specific delivery date
