People negotiate every day of their life, even without knowing. Having some basic negotiating skills mastered will help you day to day and also with bigger events.


  1. Build trust between the parties
  2. Establish the rules of engagement
  3. Establish common goals
  4. Realize it is not a zero sum game, everyone can win
  5. Accept only creative outcomes
  6. Understand cultures, especially your own
  7. Gather intelligence
  8. Design the information flow and process of meetings
  9. Invest in personal relationships
  10. Persuade with questions. Seek information and understanding
  11. Make no concessions until the end
  12. Never give up something unless you get something
  13. Use techniques of creativity
  14. Continue creativity after negotiations
