INVESTING: Investing in CD's checklist

Certificates of Deposit or (CD's) are a popular form of investment for many individuals.


  1. CD's can be purchased for low amounts
  2. There is a fixed interest rate
  3. There is a predetermined time when they mature, which can be less than a year
  4. They are backed by the bank that issued them
  5. You will earn a higher interest rate than in your savings account
  6. The longer term you purchase, the higher the interest rate
  7. Smaller banks will offer higher interest rates in order to attract customers
  8. Interest is usually paid at the end of the CD term
  9. There are usually no fees involved in buying a CD
  10. There may be fees if you cash in a CD before it's term is up
